Sims' first novel, SWIMMING NAKED, was published by Viking in 2004. It was called a "brutally moving first novel" (Chicago Tribune) and was a Barnes & Noble Original Voices pick. NEBRASKA followed on Amazon. Her first play AS WHITE AS O was produced by the Road Theatre in LA, directed by Sam Anderson. Variety called it "compelling, humorous and often fluidly poetic."

Most recently, she has published two children's books with Blue manatee press, WHEN WE ARE QUIET, and BABY LOVES TO WIGGLE WIGGLE illustrated by Sharareh Khosravani.

Sims has also written and produced a musical (THE VIVIAN GIRLS) and several True Body Project theatrical works, created out of a community engagement process to bring light to community voices. She also enjoys performative collaborations with artists.
